Lasting Software contributes to the training of future officers in 5G NTN Satellite Communications

This semester, Lasting Software is collaborating with the Land Forces Academy “Nicolae Bălcescu” in Sibiu on a specialized course dedicated to 5G NTN Satellite Communications. The initiative supports the technical education of future officers by combining solid theoretical foundations with applied, real-world perspectives on modern satellite and hybrid communication systems. 

Bridging academic education and industry expertise 

The course is facilitated by Ionel Petrut and Cornel Balint, professionals from the Lasting Software team with hands-on experience in satellite communications and non-terrestrial network technologies. Their approach balances core concepts with current industry developments, helping participants understand how 5G NTN technologies are evolving and how they are being applied in operational contexts. 

The course addresses practical and highly relevant topics, including Digital IF Interoperability (DIFI), channel impairments, and the operational challenges commonly encountered in satellite and hybrid network environments. These subjects are explored through real scenarios and technical discussions rooted in current industry practice. 

Hands-On Learning with CELEOS and Flex Space 5G NTN 

A central component of the program is its emphasis on hands-on learning. Participants work with Lasting Software’s CELEOS and Flex Space 5G NTN platforms to better connect theoretical concepts with practical implementation. 

Through realistic emulation and validation scenarios, future officers gain insight into how next-generation satellite and 5G NTN systems are designed, tested, and optimized. This practical exposure allows them to understand system behavior, evaluate performance under different conditions, and assess the impact of channel impairments in controlled environments. 

A Long-Term Commitment to Knowledge Transfer 

For Lasting Software, this collaboration represents more than a single educational initiative. It reflects a long-term commitment to knowledge transfer, applied innovation, and sustainable cooperation between industry and academia. As non-terrestrial networks play an increasingly critical role in defense, security, and mission-critical communications, early exposure to these technologies is essential for preparing future leaders and technical decision-makers. 

Helping future officers build a solid understanding of 5G NTN today contributes directly to the development of more resilient, interoperable, and future-ready communication capabilities.
